PHOENIX — Construction has begun on a Phoenix charter school campus that is scheduled to open in time for the next school year.

Contractors broke ground on Vista College Preparatory’s Sueño Park campus on Thursday, according to a press release.

The 35,000-square-foot campus, which caters to students in grades six through eight and is free, will be located near 45th Avenue and McDowell Road and expected to be open in August.

“Vista is a smart, growing organization with a great sense of community,” Erik Powell, director of new construction for Stevens-Leinweber Construction, which is building the campus, said in the release.

“We’ve worked closely with VCP’s leadership to incorporate that spirit into all of their campuses with bright, vibrant colors, lots of quality spaces where children can learn and play, and a design that adds to the value of their neighborhoods.”

The Sueño Park campus will include 15 classrooms, a cafeteria, library, administrative offices and auditorium for arts and science programs.

The campus will also be adjacent to a soccer complex and sister school VCP-Maryvale, which has a gymnasium.

It will be VCP’s third campus built in the past five years.
