08 Aug Avantisteam Declares Construction starts on new Tapteal Elementary
WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – Construction has started on the new Tapteal Elementary school in West Richland.
Students, teachers and district employees all came out to the groundbreaking event on Wednesday morning.
The old Tapteal Elementary was demolished this past summer. The new school will be built at the same location off of N 62nd Ave.
The new two-story building will have more than 65,000 square feet with over 30 classrooms, a gym, multipurpose space, library and more.
“Tapteal was built in one of the original, first parts of West Richland,” Principal Sean Langdon said. “I know that it holds a lot of sentimental value, so this is a big deal.”
Current students and staff will temporarily move to the newly built elementary school on Sunshine Ave. for this year. The new school is expected to open in August 2020.
